Travel report North Macedonia

North Macedonia has a very nice flag

So, now we are in the next country on our journey: Northern Macedonia. Actually, it wasn't planned at all, but we liked Lake Ohrid on the Albanian side so much, that we now also want to get to know the north Macedonian side. Unfortunately we couldn't take the sun with us, it's cold and rainy here.

The smallest border crossing on our tour !

Despite the bad weather, we set out, to see the town of Ohrid – lt. Travel guide to one of the oldest cities in the world. Ohrid will do that too “Jerusalem des Balkans” called, there are 365 Churches – one for every day. In the Roman Empire there was already a lot of trade here, later the city became the most important center of North Macedonia. We liked the town very much, in the sun and 30 Let's imagine it to be bombastic.

In the evening there is a parking space by the lake – actually very pretty, but extremely muddy and muddy. It pours like buckets all night. The next morning we hardly dare to leave the house: the dogs bring kilos of dirt into the car and my shoes are also stuck to 3 Centimeters of mud. Without further ado we decide, back to town on one “normal” Parking lot to drive, so as not to sink completely into the mud.

Do I see snow there? ??
When are we going to have a snowball fight? ??

The weather is excellent, to continue writing the travel blog a bit. The view from the window is shocking: it actually snowed tonight, the mountain tops are white, the thermometer is just showing 4 City !!!!

At noon we happen to meet Sarah and Christian from Weilheim/Upper Bavaria, who park their Steyr next to us. Because it's too cold, to stay outside, let's meet for a beer in the evening. It didn't stop at one glass, it turned out to be a very nice one, fun evening, time flew by in no time. The next morning, of course, we did a mutual vehicle inspection, they talked shop and exchanged experiences. After a short stroll along the beautiful promenade, we continue to Galicia National Park. In fact, on this pass we come into a real winter landscape and through heavy snowdrifts.

Onset of winter 🙁

Arriving at Lake Prespa we look again for the pelicans – apparently they are too cold, we can't find any this time.

It's still very cold and uncomfortable, so the decision for the next route is easy: we continue towards Greece, at some point it has to get better.

On the way there is a short visit to the town of Bitola: there is a lot going on here, there are “normal” businesses, many mosques and a nice turkish quarter.

Shortly after Bitola comes the Greek border: as always, we drive easily to the passport control and are first sent back: a digital entry form is required, that we have to fill out on site, Hans-Peter has to do a quick test (Strangely I don't need it ??) and after an hour we made it: we are back in the EU !
